Sean Corbett’s song ‘Taboo’ is something many can relate to
January 12, 2018
Sean Corbett, senior, has written many songs and has released a song that a lot of people have been able to relate to called “Taboo.” A lot of people have found themselves thinking that they have been in this type of situation in their relationship, platonic or romantic.
“I began writing the song to convey emotions I had never felt so strongly before. My lyrics quite explicitly show those emotions and things that were actually said from my friends to me. I have a hard time writing lyrics, so it ended up being put aside for a while. In that time it wasn’t being touched, circumstances arose that I wasn’t expecting between me and this person that the song is about. Taboo had become a way for me to tell myself that I was going to be okay.”
The first time I heard the song, I couldn’t help but cry a little bit because of how easy it was to relate to it and the fact that a friend of mine had written such an amazing song, so I had to know- was it written for someone or to convey her own emotions?
“It started as a song I was writing for someone. Not being able to finish it very quickly, something happened and it made the song more personal to me and even relatable to many of my friends.”
Of course if you liked this song, know that there is more to come from her in the future, as she still has many songs in the works and plans on releasing them in the future.
“I have tons. A lot of my songs are only at about a minute and a half, and it seems that after that time mark I just get stuck with my words. There will definitely more songs to look for in the future. Actually, about a year ago I had also released my first song, “Golden,” in which I took some of my friend, Tess Jones, lyrics and wrote the rest inspired on my experiences. My New Year’s resolution is to write more music and put myself and my art out there for the public to embrace.”
This particular quote from her hit me hard because I realized my friend group has changed a lot since I started high school.
“A lot of high school relationships tend to fade and that’s unfortunate. I just want people to know that relationships, whether that be romantic or platonic, will always come and go. If you feel like someone is worth going through the trouble for don’t let people’s opinions change how you feel.”
Here is a link to the song if you have not heard it yet. I strongly recommend listening to it on here on Soundcloud.
