To start the Halloween season, the new horror movie ‘Smile’ debuted last Friday.

Directed by Parker Finn, who has made other horror movies such as the short ‘The Hidebehind,’ and what inspired him to make Smile, ‘Laura hasn’t slept.’

Parker Finn’s marketing campaign is him hiring people to go to the Mets and Yankees baseball game and told them to just smile creepily, he was worried that no one would notice the crowd-smilers at the baseball game.

“We were all crossing our fingers,” he said.

‘Smile’ features Sosie Bacon, who has starred in ’13 Reasons Why’, ‘Scream’ (the series), and is the daughter of the perennial Kevin Bacon.

Other cast, Caitlin Stasey, Rob Morgan, Jessie T. Usher and more.

The plot of this movie is based on the character witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient.

Then Dr. Rose Cotter starts experiencing frightening occurrences that she can’t explain. As the terror takes over her life, Rose must confront her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying new reality.

The movie is rated ‘R’… and after deciding to watch it over the weekend, I came to the conclusion that it was a really good horror movie. It had the perfect amount of suspense and the audio and visuals were amazing. Nathan Spears, 11, quoted, “It was genuinely scary and it really messed with your mind, it was like you didn’t know if it was the real world or her mind.

The jump-scares really reminded me of the Scream franchise that came out in 1996, although it had some minor plot holes, it was really difficult to predict the outcome.

Box office results show and Smile had a frighteningly strong debut, opening in first place with $22 million, putting it ahead of  ‘Bros’ at $4.8 million in its first weekend and ‘Hocus Pocus’ 2 also at $4.8 million.

Director Parker Finn, said he would be open to making a sequel as long as it’s not a retread.

This writer recommends this movie as a perfect way to start the spooky season.
