Life Is Strange is a video game series that has been producing games since 2015.
The games are Single Player but have adventure, action, interactive choice making, and storytelling. The developers of this series include ‘Don’t Nod’, ‘Square Enix’, and ‘Deck Nine.’
The first game from this series is called Life Is Strange 1, which started off with a girl named Max Caulfield, a senior interested in photography, who discovers that she can rewind time while accidentally saving her childhood best friend, Chloe Price.
This newfound power to rewind time leads her every choice to enact the butterfly effect. The player’s actions will adjust the narrative as it unfolds, and reshapes it once allowed to travel back in time. The game continues on following the adventure of Max and Chloe trying to unravel their school’s dark secret.
Life Is Strange: Before the Storm shows the backstory of Arcadia Bay before Max moved back.
The backstory features Chloe and her other best friend that went missing, Rachel. The game was released in 2017 to keep fans content while developers were making Life Is Strange 2.
There are also 2 other DLCs that connect to the LIS series, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit and Life Is Strange: True Colors – Wavelengths follow side characters in LIS as main characters in their own stories.
In Life Is Strange 2 the story follows brothers Sean Diaz and younger brother, Daniel, who has telekinesis powers that become more disruptive the angrier and more emotional he becomes. One day after school a tragic incident occurs and Sean and Daniel end up on the run from police and other government officials.
Like the first game, it’s an interactive choice making and storytelling game causing your decisions to lead the game down different paths.
Your part in this story is making sure Sean and Daniel don’t get separated and that Sean stays out of jail.
Continuing the first and second installments, developers finally came out with Life Is Strange 3: True Colors on September 10, 2021 after being announced on March 18, 2021.
In this story, we follow Alex Chen who grew up in a broken home with her parents and her brother, Gabe Chen. After the death of her mom, her family gets separated and she and Gabe both end up in foster care, later getting separated as well.
Alex lives a grueling life being able to experience and manipulate the emotions of others until her brother, Gabe, finds her number years later and messages her. They then start texting and she agrees to move down with him to Haven Springs, Colorado. The story follows an accident where Alex declares she’ll uncover and subdue the mystery behind it.
Life Is Strange developer, Don’t Nod Entertainment, reveals that they have eight games in development all planned to release between 2023 and 2025.
Rumors say that what is being called Life Is Strange 4, will be a direct sequel to the first Life Is Strange and features the same protagonists, Max and Chloe.
Ever since I got a Xbox in 2019, I’ve bought and played all the games. The length of the games combined average out to be 14 hours long which all have amazing graphics and stories, I’m excited to see what other sequels the developers have in mind.
If you’ve played all these games and want more, there are other games like this made by Don’t Nod Entertainment. Try getting ‘Tell Me Why’ and ‘Twin Mirror’ which have the same interactive choice making and story telling backgrounds!
