Hawk Highlight: Debra Oropeza

Debra is a mom of two and a grandma of one. She’s from El Paso, Texas and have lived in Fort Worth and Austin. She currently the Center Director/Family Advocate for the Hays PEP Center at Hays CISD. She has worked in this role for about 7 months- previously she was a teacher. Her strengths are that she is a forward thinker and can adapt quickly. She is also an organized individual and a people person. A few of her weakness are that she tends to second guess herself and can at times lack confidence in her own abilities.
She has a Bachelors Degree in Applied Learning and Development with a concentration in Community Studies and Education. She is two classes away from received a Masters Degree in Business Administration with a focus in International Business. She currently considering a PhD. in Education. The person who inspires her is her husband inspires her the most. He is always extremely supportive of her schooling and profession.
Why she does what she is doing right now is she is an educator at heart. Education has been her passion since the day she began college. She loves working with children and being a part of their development. Specifically, as the Center Director at the PEP Center, she sees herself in the teen mothers as she was once a teen mother herself. She knows first hand the challenges they face and feel that can be a positive example for them.
In her free time she likes to spend time outdoors. Spending quality time with her family is always a must. She also likes to read in her spare time. Where she likes to see herself in five years, or in the future in general is, In the future professionally, she would like to become a professor at the University level. She would also like to live near the beach and near her children and grandbaby.
