Portals, release on March 31, 2023, has become a new popular album by the artist Melanie Martinez. Through this album she has shown her true colors, and intentions with her music. And the fans have mixed reviews about it.

This album has cost her several fans because of how dark and twisted her new music style is. Although most have enjoyed this change in perspective from her. What most people are upturned about is her new style, such as the feline crossed with an alien look thats presented as the album cover. It’s creeping out even the original fans.

Melanie says the album was planned out since k-12 came out in 2019. On an interview with The KnockTurnal, in 2020, she implied that her famous character, Crybaby, was going to “grow up.”

“She’s gonna be evolving and transforming as a being. Her growth isn’t going to be as literal. She’s not gonna go to college, you know, it’s not going to be like that. But she’s definitely going to transform and evolve, but I can’t say anything or else it’ll be a spoiler.”

Melanie Martinez always puts meaning behind her art, and this was made for the purpose of relating to people while on Earth. Melanie adds on Instagram: “all of the songs on this album are based on past life regression therapy books I’ve been reading for a few years now, particularly the in between phase of death and life. All of them disguised with earthly themes for double/triple meaning, to create a frequency for humans to relate to while still here on earth.”

After listening to ‘Portals’ I would definitely say it’s a big change in her music style, but it’s not a bad change. Each of her songs, from ‘Death’ to ‘Womb’, are relatable to being a person on Earth. More music like this is expected to come from her along with her new musical films.
