September 7, 2018
The 2018-2019 season is underway and the chase for Super Bowl 53 is almost here. After a finish to Super Bowl fifty two which featured Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback and Austin native, Nick Foles, defeating one of the most successful coach and quarterback duos of; Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, who have already won five super bowl rings together. The Eagles dominated the reigning champion New England Patriots with a final score of 41-33.
Thursday night’s match-up will feature the past two NFC champions as Atlanta Falcons visit the defending NFC (National Football Conference) and Super Bowl champs Philadelphia Eagles. The Philadelphia Eagles will once again be without their starting quarterback Carson Wentz, but Super Bowl MVP and backup quarterback Nick Foles will take over the Eagles dominant offense. Last season the Philadelphia Eagles offense averaged 5.5 yards per play and outscored opponents 457 to 295. This will be week ones’ marquee matchup as it could be a potential playoff game as the Eagles and Falcons have met three times out of the last 18 postseasons.
Thursday night’s game will be filled with a playoff type atmosphere along with many other week one matchups such as the Houston Texans at the New England Patriots, and the Los Angeles Rams at the Oakland Raiders.
A new season means everyone has a chance to hoist the Lombardi trophy at the end of the season. Every fan believes that there team has a chance of winning. Just ask the Cleveland Browns. The Browns went 0-16 last season proving that they were the laughing stock of the NFL.
“I can see the Browns upsetting a lot of teams which can affect a lot of playoff spots later on.Acquisition of Oklahoma quarterback and 2018 Heisman trophy winner Baker Mayfield along with veteran quarterback, Tyrod Taylor and wide receiver, Jarvis Landry,” senior Andrew Guzman said.
The Cleveland Browns are one of the teams that are on the league’s watch list.”The Cleveland Browns have a lot more talent and developed players such as defensive end Myles Garrett and Jabrill Peppers,” Senior Andrew Guzman said. Along with the Cleveland Browns, the Houston Texans have a lot to prove this season as they were on pace to contending for an, AFC (American Football Conference) South division title “I believe the Texans will be better than ever this year,” senior Nolan Hogan.
Last season quarterback Deshaun Watson tore his ACL, during a weekday practice leading into a week nine matchup against division rival the Indianapolis Colts. “I believe the Texans will be light years better than what they finished last season. Deshaun Watson brings a new energy to the field. If he can stay healthy the entire year along with defensive stars JJ Watt and Whitney Mercilus the Texans will be alot better,” Hogan said.
The season is filled with excitement and many fans are ready for the season to begin.
“I’m really excited to see how the young talent from the past couple of drafts turn out. Also excited to see the teams that were on the rise last year stay rising to the top of their divisions and shock the league.” Hogan said.
