In a tough and competitive 25-6a district, three members of the Hays Varsity football team took home All Centex awards for listing there name’s as some of the best to play in Central Texas. These players worked hard both on and off the field to help lead the Hays Rebels to an 8-3 record.

Senior Brandon Garcia took home All Centex third team offensive lineman as he anchored the offense that averaged 372 yards and 35.5 points per game. “It’s a blessing but I’m not surprised. I have done the hard work, I have put in the time and I left everything out on the field but I couldn’t do it without my teammates, coaches, or parents. That’s the true blessing to have people around who want you to succeed,” Garcia said. Garcia knew at the beginning of the year he needed to step up and be the leader of the offensive line and he did just that.

“I can trust the guys next to me to do their jobs and always holding each other accountable,” he said.

Three year letterman and senior Michael Mireles led the defense to a bi-district playoff appearance while racking up 131 tackles, 8 sacks and 7 tackles for a loss. Michael received 2nd team all centex linebacker award as he proved to be the heart of the defense. “It feels really good to be recognized but that was  never the goal,” Mireles said. Michael was the leader of the defense as he was able to keep everyone together through tough situations. “Everyday I worked hard to be the best teammate I could be and to do my part to make our football team as successful as possible. The recognition is awesome and a sign that I was successful in being a good teammate,” he said.

Xavier Martinez senior quarterback and punter would lead the team down the field with the intent to score. The offense was well-rounded and worked together on each drive. Martinez was awarded first team all Centex punter as he would average 46.8 yards per punt allowing the Hays Rebels to pin opposing teams in the back of their own end zones. “It feels great to be recognized for something has put a lot of work in. We would put so much work into on special teams and multiple periods on punting,” Martinez said.

This was a reason why the Hays Rebels defense was dominant throughout the season. “We were so successful in that aspect of the game that it allowed us even more of a chance for opportunities,” Martinez said.
