Hays High voted in their choice for this year’s Teacher of the Year– with the honor going to Shelly Plumley, anatomy & physiology teacher, CTE department head and senior class sponsor.

Plumley, who’s taught at Hays HS for 14 years, said she was surprised to win.

“Science is incredible, fascinating and beautiful. There are so many unanswered questions to explore and it naturally stimulates curiosity. I began teaching to light the curiosity fire in my students and introduce them to the magical world of science that I love so much,” Plumley states in her bio.

“I was so honored and surprised by the choice to elect me this year,” she said, adding that she loves her job of teaching and molding high school students, helping them get ready for the next steps in life.

Plumley accepts her new title. Other nominees included (L to R) Carlie Ethridge, Lory Stewart, Melissa O’Dell and Tom Ray.
