Rebel choir students are anxiously awaiting the weekend as they run through their dance numbers and solos on repeat, perfecting each pitch as they go. It’s production week for the choir program, which means everyone is hard at work ensuring that the show is ready for the spotlight. On Saturday, students will come together to put on one of the biggest productions of the season: Rebel Revue.

There will be two shows this weekend, Saturday Oct. 26 and Sunday Oct. 27, at the Hays Performing Arts Center (PAC), both of which will start at 3 pm. The theme of this year’s production is Broadway, which many students were very excited to hear. Head director Charles Flores has chosen a diverse selection of Broadway hits for the students to sing, and some of the music was even hand-picked by the students themselves.

“I’m so excited to show the audience all of our hard work and show off the talented singers of the Hays choir,” Chorale member Andrea Diaz, 11, said.

Not only have the choirs been rehearsing their music during the class period, but they have been putting in extra time outside of school to prepare for the show. Students are meeting for rehearsal almost every day after school this week and during parts of lunch as well. It is important to both the director and the performers that the show runs smoothly and is entertaining for the audience, as well as fun for the singers.

“Having time to rehearse in class is helpful, but not that much can be accomplished in a 50 minute period. Time and effort needs to be put into these rehearsals in order for us to be successful, and the best way to achieve that is to squeeze in extra practices,” Chorale member Caroline Barnett, 11, said.

Not only is this a fun experience for both the choir students and the local community, this is also one of the main ways the choir program raises money. All proceeds from ticket sales will go directly into budget of the choir program. Flores typically holds one fundraiser per semester, and as Rebel Revue is the fall fundraiser for the year, he and the students find it important to spread awareness about the production.

“We encourage everyone to come see the Rebel choir perform our first concert of the year. It’s full of incredible soloists, fun songs, and choreography to top it all off. Support your friends and family in the program with ticket purchases and any kind of donation!” Choir Council President Aimee Wood, 11, said.
