1917 movie review
January 17, 2020
The movie 1917 didn’t win the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture for nothing; it was a heart-racing experience watching it in theaters. The movie is based on two British soldiers who are sent to go across enemy territory to deliver a message to a commander to stop an attack on the Germans. Getting the message across could potentially save 1,600 British comrades including one of the soldier’s brothers. Sam Mendes got the idea of the movie 1917 from a war story of his paternal grandfather Alfred Mendes ones told him when he was a boy. Although the movie is mostly fiction, the core of the story line is true.
The main thing that has people talking about this movie is the way this movie became a ‘one shot film’ and how they were capable of doing it with no cuts. During the movie, the camera simply follows the characters throughout the movie never leaving the characters’ side and never drifting too far away.
1917 is more than just another World War I movie; during the movie, you become attached to the characters and the conflict that they experience trying to deliver the message. Personally, I think 1917 was greatly produced and a heart touching movie. I’m thankful I was able to experience it in theaters. If you have the chance, invite your friends or family to go watch it with you in theaters.
