The newest DC cinematic adaption opened the publics eyes to the story of the renewed Harley Quinn, Margot Robbie’s returning to the role, after her break up with Jared Leto’s Joker, previously seen in 2018’s Suicide Squad. Harley Quinn gathers a strong, butt-kicking group of female leads to save a young Cassandra Cain, played by Ella Jay Basco, from the blood thirsty Black Skull, portrayed by Ewan McGregor. The story itself is action-packed with multiple fight scenes, witty commentary, and plenty of strong female moments that aren’t particularly shown in most movies.

While the story does start off slow, catching Harley Quinn at her lowest point as she binges multiple amounts of junk food before starting her new career as a solo villain with a bang, it picks up it’s pace when you discover that Black Mask is after a little girl for unknowingly stealing his most prized possession a one-of-a-kind Bertinelli Diamond, which ironically belongs to not Black Mask, but Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s, Helena Bertinelli.

The movie itself, while not as dark and moody as the rest of the DC cinematic have been, is fun to watch when you are aching for fight scene after fight scene with witty commentary in between. Birds of Prey fits perfectly for what an authentic Harley Quinn movie should be; if you had read the comics, more specifically the New #52, you could probably guess exactly which comics the directors and producers had taken influence from. Every individual character was diverse and different, and not just in skin tone or body shape, but as a characterization as a whole; no two characters were the same, but they still bonded and meshed extremely well together as a group.

Birds of Prey is fun, excitable, and sets you in a great mood to take on the world with your best girl group and kick some major bad guy butt, I’ve never been so anxious about seeing a movie before and walking out with tears of joy about how it didn’t fail at what Justice League tried to do as well. It’s great for the whole family, and the entirety of your friend group.
