Is The Willow Project Worth It?

What is the Willow Project? The Willow Project is a several decade-long projects meant to insure the future of America’s energy. The project would create jobs and boost energy production. This could produce, in a day, upwards of 180,000 barrels of oil and is the biggest oil field in Alaska in decades. The oil drill will be on Alaska’s North Slope and many climate change activists are angered by this project

Many people fighting against the Willow Project believe that the oil and revenue are not worth the effects on the environment this will cause. Many bring up the fact that noise and pollution will ruin ecosystems. This will not only disrupt the lives of many animals but also the lives of the indigenous communities that rely on these ecosystems. Pollution is also not something to take lightly. The project is estimated to release more than 278 million tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

Many are wondering if the government should even go through with the project. Are the production and revenue worth the ecosystems and lives it stands to ruin? Is the money worth more than the environment? With how quickly the gap to reverse climate change is closing should we really be working on ways to get more oil instead of finding ways to cut oil out of our lives?
