Whether you think band is hard or easy, there are things about it that outsiders don’t see or understand. We talked to the Hays Band about the challenges they face, and the more easier things that happen during practices and games.
One challenging thing you do in band that others think is easy?
Brenden Holland, 12: “It is challenging to march. The focus on your physical prowess, and how you visually present yourself while marching, takes a lot more than what people think.”
Karina Romero, 10: “One challenging thing everyone else thinks is easy would be overall marching in general.”
Andrew Wilson, 10: “I would say staying engaged and focused the whole time during rehearsals is something that I do find challenging, while others think is easy.”
Paiton Hardin, 11: “One pretty hard thing to do is learn your drill and set on the field, while putting the music all together and memorizing it.”
One easier thing you do that other people think is hard?
Brenden Holland: “Memorization is the easiest. You end up playing the music so often, even the finite details and tiny changes are remembered almost instantaneously.”
Paiton Hardin: “It’s easier to learn music and understand what we are playing, especially after 6 years of band, but some people think it’s pretty hard to do.”
Andrew Wilson: “One easy thing I do that others find hard is probably leaning and memorizing music quickly.”
Karina Romero: “Being able to learn a new show every year and perform it would be easier for me, but to others would be considered harder.”
While there are many misconceptions about the band and what they do, there is no doubt the group is full of talent.
