On Friday August 25th, before school my mom and I drove to the grand opening of Black Rock Coffee Bar where we ordered the “Mexican Mocha” (containing hints of vanilla, almond and cinnamon) and the “Oreo Chiller”(containing blended chocolate, Oreos, and expresso). I’d say it was around 8:15am when we arrived and it was already full of people in the tiny store. My mom and I used the driveway where we were greeted by nice staff wearing cool logo shirts. Since we went on opening day we got free 16oz drinks which was super cool. Overall I’d say the coffee was very good. You can really taste the raw coffee which can be nice to some people and their whipped cream is phenomenal. The Oreo Chiller was definitley better than the Mexcian Mocha and as a person who dosen’t usually like coffee I would say this is a good grab in the morning. However I was a bit dissapointed there was no food but im sure it’s just because its the grand opening and they’ll have it soon. Some reviews I managed to pick up include “This buss!” from Kait Wilson (buss/bussing is a teen slang word that emphasizes how good food can be) and “It was really yummy, it kinda taste like dirt at first but it was good and bussing.” from Gracie Gonzales.
On Saturday August 26th, I went back to the coffee bar with my boyfriend for their buy one get one off grand promo day. When we stepped in we were amazed and how nice and neat the place looked with tables and a lounge area for customers. We decided to order a chocolate shake, the “Camarel Blondie”, and the “Blue Razzbery Fuel” drink. To our surprise, we didn’t even get the chance to sit down after ordering because our drinks were already ready for us. Our personal favorite was the “Caramel Blondie” which was a nice hint of coffee along with the sweetness of caramel. I asked my boyfriend about the “Caramel Blondie” and he said “Hmmm… it’s…. kinda sweet… I like it,” taking sips in between each word.
I would definitely be getting this drink again. However the chocolate shake was alright. It didn’t have a thickness of a milkshake, so I was a bit disappointed but it was still good.
The “Blue Razzberry Fuel” drink had mixed opinions. My boyfriend liked it but I thought it was too sugary. But overall 3 oz drinks for $14 isn’t bad. We both agreed that it was a pretty good coffee bar and you should definitely try it out yourself.
When you approach the bar there’s a beautiful mural that could be great for your next Instagram post or to sit outside and enjoy. Inside a ton of murals of the famous piece “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” fill the walls. In the lobby there are wooden accents that really add a modern touch to the artistic cafe. There are a bunch of tables to sit at as well as a lounge area with couches under beautiful lighting. It truly is just a nice, cute, artsy, aesthetic cafe that can be perfect for a date, studying, or hanging out with friends.
After a bunch of interviewing and reviewing I’ve come to the conclusion that the Black Rock Coffee Bar is a hit and is also a new grab and go on an early school morning. It’s a solid 7/10. I’d say lets see if it stays that way.
