Entertainment recommendations for spring break
March 8, 2019
Spring is quickly approaching even though the weather doesn’t feel like it. There is no time like the present than to get into a spring mood. If you find yourself bored this spring break than I’m here to help you. So I have a list of games, movies, and shows that will definitely get you into that spring feeling or at least entertain you.
First let’s start with a list of movies. Lilo and Stitch, Shrek one – two, then four (skip three, you’ll thank me later), the Madagascar series, Les Miserables, UP and the MCU movies. Lilo and Stitch is a S tier Disney movie and it’s so sweet. Shrek is just amazing (except for three) and it deserves a rewatch. Madagascar has Marty the Zebra, enough said. Les Miserables is not very Spring-like but the story is uplifting, it’s a musical and a french play. Needless to say that it’s amazing. UP is a cute story by the best animators in the business. The MCU movies are huge and interlocking so if you’re bored this screen break, try watching from Iron man all the way to Captain marvel. Out of all this I would say Lilo and Stitch is the perfect spring break movie.
Now it’s time for some TV shows that either fit the spring aesthetic or just binginable for spring break. The Office, Parks and Rec, The Good Place, One day at a time, The Last man on Earth, and Stranger Things. The Office is one of the funniest and smartest comedies of all time, plus it’s very bingeable. Parks and Rec is like The Office but funnied and (in my opinion) better. The Good Place is the best show in recent memory, it’s funny and the good place does look like a perfect place in the spring. One day at a time is a sitcom that breaks gender, racial, and sexuality stereotypes. It’s hilarious and heartfelt. The Last man on Earth had an abrupt end (thanks FOX. I’ll forever be bitter of you) but it’s such a great time, the story is intriguing, and the comedy is brilliant. But Stranger Things take the cake. If you haven’t seen it, stop
Reading and go watch it with a Netflix free trial.
Lastly let’s talk about what I know best, video games. These games are perfect for spring. Kid Icarus Uprising (3DS), Minecraft (all devices ever), and finally Stardew Valley. Kid Icarus Uprising is easily one of the best games on the 3DS which is a console full of stellar titles. It’s written by many people from SNL and because of this it is written beautifully and it’s hilarious. The story can get get you really involved and with it’s fast pace nature, it’s a good game o just play all at once like a week long break. I’m sure I don’t have to explain Minecraft to anyone but it’s a nice and calming game. You can do pretty much anything you want in it. Plus you can play it basically on any device ever. But most importantly we need to talk about Stardew Valley. And this story may or may not be my excuse to talk about the game.
Stardew Valley is one of the most relaxing and fun games I have ever played. When you boot it up, your grandpa gives you the deed to a farm (of your choosing. There are a couple options.) His instructions are to only open the envelope when you are done with modern life. It then skips time to when your character is an adult and working at a place called Joja (the main antagonist of this game). Your character is bored and just wants to quit. They open a drawer and see the envelope. With no hesitation you go off to your farm in Stardew Valley. You have a small house an a lot of land to do whatever you want with. You start with 500 hundred gold (the currency in the game). You can buy seeds and start your farm. You get money by putting stuff in your shipping box and going to bed. The game only saves once per (in game) day. Ten seconds is ten minutes in game. You can sell more than just crops. Wood, minerals, fish, clams, artifacts, etc. Your neighbor, Robin, is a carpenter who can build farm buildings for you, sell furniture to you, and upgrade your house if you have the right materials and enough money. Your neighbors south can sell you animals and stuff for them, but you can only have them if you have the right farm buildings. The game has a stellar cast of characters. They are diverse and amazing. Plus the game is very progressive, you can date/ marry any single character in the game. Good thing the game makes it clear who is single. So no matter what gender you choose for yourself in game, you can be with any one of the single people. And that’s it.
Go out and have fun. It is so much fun and I play it whenever I’m bored or have nothing else to do. You can even start another file and play on it with your friends. Stardew Valley is available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Playstation four, IOS and Android. Prices vary between consoles.
And that’s my spring recommendations of 2019– Even if it isn’t spring anymore, all of these are amazing and fun pieces of entertainment.
