Recommended Valentine’s Day rom coms
February 7, 2020
Love them or tolerate them, rom-coms are entertaining movies that combine romance and a little bit of comedy. Valentine’s Day is coming up and so is the time for binge-watching some classics, ranging anywhere from the ‘80s to the 2000s. For a life lesson or two, romcoms have their ups and downs, and here are some classic rom-coms that I think everyone should watch.
Starting from the most recent, and very popular, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, came out on Netflix and soon became a big hit. This movie, based on the novel by Jenny Han, is an accurate approach to teen romance. The main character, Lara Jean, writes love notes to all the boys she has ever had a crush on but never sends them. However, her sister has another plan– sending out out all of the love notes she wrote. One of the boys she wrote a letter to decides to create a fake romance with her in order to get his ex back.
Next on the list is a movie from the early 2000s. 50 First Dates, is set in Hawaii, where the playboy Henry has his eyes set on a girl that has memory loss. Every morning Henry goes to the same place to try and get her to fall in love with him. Her friends and family, are protective and scared that he is gonna break her heart so he has to convince all of them that he is in it for love.
Second to last, is a movie that has a perfect montage of revenge on someone that wronged you. Pretty Woman, made in 1990, is a story of a prostitute and a wealthy businessman that fall for each other and make an unlikely, but perfect match. Set in L.A. this businessman picks up a prostitute and spends the weekend with her. Getting to know each other they overcome a difference between their two worlds.
Last on the list, a movie that has a big opinion on “can women and men be just friends?”
Set in New York, When Harry Met Sally, is a movie where Harry and Sally are forced to take a long car ride together and end up meeting again in a bookstore, 10 years later. They become friends and try not to let that fact of their genders become and issue.
A few more that weren’t on this list, but would be a good mention are 10 Things I Hate About You, Clueless, The Notebook, Mean Girls, Bridesmaids, and Dirty dancing. There is no “best’ romantic comedy, but these movies will surely be good for a girls night.
