Wordle has quickly taken the internet by storm, whether it be sharing your results on Facebook or therorizing over the optimal starting word on Tiktok. So what is Wordle? Wordle is a logic game that gives players six chances to guess a randomly selected five-letter word. If you have the right letter in the right spot, it shows up green. Yellow means the letter is in the word, but not in that spot. Grey means the letter is not in the word at all. As you guess five-letter words you can learn hints about the letters and their placements. This process continues until you correctly guess the word, or you run out of guesses.

According to the New York Times, over 300,000 people play the Wordle daily! You may be wondering how it became such a big game so fast and that has to do with three big things. One, everyone has the same word. This makes it an easy topic of relatable conversation, you are able to talk about and share your score and methods on how you got the answer and have a mutual understanding. Two, it’s super easy to share. When you finish a Wordle you get the option to share your results and they show up like this:

Wordle 212 5/6

⬜🟨🟩⬜⬜

⬜🟩🟨🟨🟩

🟨🟩🟩⬜🟩

🟩🟩🟩⬜🟩

🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

This allows results to be shared without spoiling the answer for everyone! Last but definitely not least is the fact that there is only one puzzle a day! This makes it high stakes, if you fail you have to wait until the next day to do another puzzle. All these plus the doable criteria of thinking of just a five-letter word sets Wordle up for infectious gameplay.
