Sophie Kopp, sophomore, is the art club’s vice president, hosted by Emily Banks in room B103. Sophie runs the art club next to Zooey Mclindon, the president, and interacts with all sorts of creative people in the school. She represents the art club at events and helps pull together activities for the art club to do, much like her appearance next to Zooey when 8th graders from Wallace and Barton visited our school to determine what classes and clubs they might be interested in joining.
What was it like being in the art club before/after you became the vice president of the art club?
Last year Sophie was apart of the Hays Highline JV dance team, and because of this and a few other circumstances she hardly attended the art clubs meetings. Only attending up to two of them at minimum. “Now as vice-president, I get to walk into the room and see people bond and get together over something they have in common. I watch people enjoy creating something out of almost nothing at all into something meaningful to them, seeing people do what I love to do brings a sense of joy and comfort to me.” I’d say art can bring people together, being able to collaborate to make something worth everything to them, and my friend Sophie can further prove my thoughts.
What do you do as the vice president, what activity if any do you put together?
As the vice-president, Sophie helps the president and their teacher come up with a variety of things to do in the art club. “As vice-president, I create activities and bring in things like snacks or small gifts for the people in the club. We also help in organizing fundraisers to support our club too.” She brings a face of kindness and helps give others a free space to be comfortable in so they can just be themselves in a healthy environment, supporting the club itself with what she can.
“I’ve created a few activities we’ve done, my favorite might be making little valentines for each other. I enjoyed watching people come together and have fun with friends”
If you ever have some free time and enjoy making art as much as Sophie does, perhaps you should give the art club a try and meet some new people. Have fun and make something new.
