On Tuesday October 28th, the Hays chemistry department hosted what some might refer to as, “the best experiment of the year.”
The Halloween demos include different experiments featuring the explosion of pumpkins, the creation of very bright light, and color changing substances. One of the most popular experiments every year is the fire hands experiment. In this, the teachers create a solution with water, dish soap, and glycerin which work together to create a reaction which produces flames, also known as the fire hands experiment. Another fan favorite is the explosion of pumpkins in which the teachers carve faces into the pumpkins and create an explosion inside, causing the carved pieces to fly out away from the pumpkin.
Finally when you take a small piece of magnesium and light it on fire it produces an extremely bright light.
